Minutes of the meeting of the Vancouver Chapter of the
Pacific Aircraft Maintenance Engineers Association
Wednesday, Nov.2, 2005 @1900
At the Pacific Flying Club
The weather was like the tail end of a hurricane with heavy rain and blowing wind that knocked out the power to much of Surrey and New Westminster.
In spite of this 13 members braved the night to attend the first meeting.
1. Approval of Agenda Bob Rorison moved the agenda, Bill Foyle seconded it and it was approved.
2. Vaughn Philpott and David Dunstan were approved to count the ballots and report back. They reported that Gordon Dupont, Bob Rorison and Gordon Askin were elected. Moved by Peter Sleeman and seconded by Bill Foyle that the ballots be destroyed. Vote taken and passed.
3. Discussion on purpose of Chapter. All those present felt that they wanted regular gatherings to know what was happening in the industry.
Part of the meeting could be social with general interest topics being presented such as a video on the Bristol freighter working in the arctic or the presentation on the Mars water bomber in action.
Speakers could be brought in on topics as well.
For training, it was felt that most wanted to know more about CARS and the changes that are taking place. It was felt that this would be an excellent topic for the next meeting. A speaker on the new avionics was also suggested. (Action Directors)
4. Locations of meetings. A vote was taken after some discussion on alternating the location of the meetings between ZBB, Boundary Bay, YVR Vancouver Airport, and YNJ Langley airport. so that members would have a meeting close to them at least some of the time. Vote passed.
4. Means of distributing minutes will be via Email as will notices and reminders of the next meeting. All attending had an Email address.
5. Recognition of AMEs in advancing aviation (Museum exhibit) Discussion took place regarding a display at the local museum to demonstrate the AME’s contribution to the advancement of aviation in Canada. While this had been approved at an annual general meeting many years ago, it still had not taken place. There was some talk about a museum starting up at ZBB in the old WW2 hangar. Art Morrow volunteered to look up the manikins that would be needed as part of the display and it was decided to keep this item open for future meetings (Action Art Morrow)
6. Update on new International competition for AME learners – Skills Canada International. Bob Rorison gave an excellent PowerPoint presentation of the Sills Canada competition. This is something that we as AMEs should support as it serves to enhance out profession. More information can be obtained at www.skillscanada.com
7. Future Chapter training sessions. This item was tied in with item 3, the purpose of the Chapter.
8. Any other business. There was no other business however it was asked why the minutes of this meeting couldn’t be put on the PAMEA website.
The website appears to change very little with the last newsletter dated Fall of 2004. Still a request can be made and in the mean time, the minutes will be placed on www.system-safety.com under Misc. and PAMEA Vancouver Chapter as well as Emailed to all attendees.
9. Date, Future meetings will be held on the fourth Monday of each month beginning in January at 1900 at BCIT Sea Island Campus. The next meeting will be January 23, 2006
Training Session – The case study video "The Price of a Mistake" was shown and everyone discussed that caused the accident to happen and how it could be prevented.
